Accent Decor: Splurge or Save

SAVE:

SIDE CHAIRS: Accent decor such as end tables and side chairs, can be found at affordable prices without skimping on style and quality. They don’t need to be particularly durable, and they’re the easiest items to be switched out. Save there, and you won’t feel bad redecorating when the time comes!

SPLURGE:

MIRRORS: The best way to open up a room and add some interest at the same time is through a unique wall mirror. Whether grouped as a part of a gallery wall or placed individually to make a statement, a beautiful mirror makes all the difference.

SPLURGE:

PENDANT LIGHTS: Good lighting makes all the difference , and a great investment. When it comes to finding

the right light there is a good choice for every budget.

SAVE:

FLOOR LAMPS: Whether you are looking for great lighting on a budget or ready for an investment piece, you can save on floor lamps as there are amazing and affordable options for beautiful floor lamps right now.

It’s a good thing that décor accents aren’t the trickiest pieces to work into a decorating scheme, otherwise they wouldn’t be so much fun to play with, and the variety of shapes and styles that exist would be (sadly) reduced dramatically. Another good thing is that some of our favorite accent looks are available at a variety of price points, allowing for some play not only with shape, but also with budget.

Go ahead and get whimsical with your accent styling!

Office Inspired

With all the hype around DIY, IKEA hacks and alternative design options, it’s hard to know if it’s ever worth it to shell out a lot of money for office furniture. Here are a few tips.

Splurge: Big pieces of furniture

If you’ve got an established office space, you don’t want to be filling it with any pieces that speak less than your position. And

if and when it comes to moving offices, buildings, or cities, better quality furniture will hold up much better in the transport than cheaper alternatives.

Save: Storage

Hate to break it to you, but an über expensive file cabinet won’t sort your paper for you (if only!). For the most part, all storage is created equal at least in its ability to do what it’s supposed to do: hold your items. By all means, DIY, thrift, and bargain your way to organizational bliss.

Save: Desk accessories

Items that are in your line of vision for the majority of the day are going to be the first things you get sick of looking at. You don’t want to feel guilty frequently changing out you decor because it cost a lot of money. Unless it was a gift, had sentimental value, or is so functional you can’t be without it, there’s no use shelling out for expensive desk accessories (even that sentence sounds weird).

African Inspired Pieces

African inspired designs can not only be found on fashion runways or with ankara covered furniture. You can find inspiration and embrace different cultures by adding some African inspired, yet modern furniture pieces to your home. African Designers whether home or abroad often gather inspiration from their roots, culture and local experiences. Designs by African Designers are proving themselves as not being something that is evanescent and hot at this very moment, but African  designers are rather making themselves known and proving that they are here to stay and take over. Because most of these designs are adapted to suit a contemporary style the products would not look out of place in a contemporary, shabby chic, rustic or even minimalist residential interior. This curated list will allow you to choose from a variety of african inspired or african designed quality pieces.

Materials, craftsmanship, quality and scale are important factors in differentiating High, mid and low range products but this can sometimes be tough as it depends on price point of the manufacturer as even they have a range of products they offer. If you want to see the best made bespoke brands on the market, look at high end showrooms , of course there’s a price tag to match, but you will see the pinnacle of the luxury market. On the other hand, we have boutique shops that offer similar reproduction items from different brands at fairly moderate prices.

On the far end of the scale, we have low end products sold in trade markets which are usually either reproduced locally (hand made by local crafts men) or imported knock offs called “ china” from mass produced Asian markets. Material choices and finishes play a large part in defining upper and middle range as they are likely to use the same construction methods while the low range differs because of a significantly lower expertise and quality of materials.
